| Description | According to the National Institutes of Health, many conditions can make patients feel shortness of breath. Lung conditions such as asthma, emphysema or pneumonia cause breathing difficulties. Heart disease can also cause shortness of breath if the heart is unable to pump enough blood to supply oxygen to the body. If your patient is having trouble breathing, it is important to find out the cause. This educational activity is supported in part by educational grants from Merck and Astellas.
