DescriptionAccording to the National Institutes of Health, millions of people in the U.S. have thyroid diseases. Hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland is not active enough. If a patient’s thyroid is too active, it makes more thyroid hormones than your body needs. That condition is hyperthyroidism. This activity is supported in part by educational grants from Merck and Astellas.

Describe the signs, symptoms, and associated conditions associated with hypothyroidism. 4.) Discuss the treatment of hypothyroidism including types of thyroid hormone replacement, target TSH for replacement, and surveillance after initiation of therapy.
