This course will present information on pathomechanics contributing to common hip injuries in physically active people, as well as treatment strategies to improve care of the patient with hip pain.
Morning lectures will include a multi-disciplinary approach to mastering differential diagnosis and treatment strategies athletes with hip pain. Pathology will be clearly described for a multitude of conditions and surgical techniques, and the course will provide the knowledge necessary to return injured athletes to high-level sports participation.
There will be two afternoon sessions available
(1) An Ultrasound Guided Injection Lab Session for Physicians (This labs is limited to 20 participants, so sign up early to secure your spot!)
(2) A Hands-On Rehabilitation Lab Session for Sports Medicine Professionals (athletic trainers, physical or occupational therapists, physician assistants, EMS, nurses)
- Ultrasound guided injection laboratory (FOR PHYSICIANS) will teach participants how to perform intra-articular hip injections. Proctors will instruct participants to use an ultrasound machine on live models and will perform intra-articular hip injections on cadavers. (This labs is limited to 20 participants, so sign up early to secure your spot!)
- Rehabilitation laboratory breakout sessions (FOR SPORTS MEDICINE PROFESSIONALS) will include manual therapy, aquatic therapy, biomechanical analysis and corrective exercise and neuromuscular training. It will allow participants to practice hands-on treatment and rehabilitation techniques as well as screening tools used to optimize the athlete’s return to activity.
In addition to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit for Physicians, this program will be submitted to the Ohio Physical Therapy Association for approval continuing education units for physical therapists and physical therapy assistants.
OSU Sports Medicine is an Approved Provider of continuing education for athletic trainers. This program will be submitted for a maximum of 8.5 continuing education units by the Board of Certification for certified athletic trainers.
