As the nation's opioid crisis continues to grow, nonpharmacologic approaches to pain management are increasingly recognized as an important addition to reduce opiod dependence. Join Ohio State Integrative Medicine for a review of evidence and research on integrative health practices for pain management and their application in the clinical setting.

Objectives

  • Discuss the impact of opiate prescription pain versus alternative therapies for pain management on addiction and overdose
  • Discuss a multidisciplinary and integrative approach to pain management
  • Identify non-pharmacological methods for the treatment of chronic and acute pain
  • Understand the benefits of and indications for the use of acupuncture; chiropractic care, osteopathic medicine; mind-body therapies; therapeutic massage and and integrative nutrition consults in the treatment of acute and chronic pain
  • Recognize common conditions ans symptoms associated with acute and chronic pain that can be treated with integrative medicine modalities
