Description

Neurosurgery and orthopedic spine faculty from The Ohio State University and the Cleveland Clinic will present and lead discussion on a wide variety of topics dealing with degenerative and deformity spinal conditions.

Dates and Times

Start: 9/22/2017 12:00 AM
End: 9/23/2017 12:00 AM

Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:
1. Interpret relative indications, contraindications, and expected outcomes of segmental cervical fusion versus motion preservation, with an emphasis on recent long term clinical trial data.
2.  Recall the pathophysiology, natural history, and expected outcomes following surgery for cervical spondylosis with myelopathy.
3.  Identify the most clinically relevant complications following cervical spinal surgery with case illustrations highlighting esophageal injury, vertebral artery injury, and delayed iatrogenic cervical kyphotic deformity.
4.  Recognize the latest innovations in the lateral transpsoas approach for spinal fusion
5.  Provide an update on recent clinical trials dealing with surgical management of lumbar spondylolisthesis and to develop an appreciation for the relative indications of the lateral transposas versus the dorsal approach for lumbar spinal fusion.
6.  Explain surgical management of thoracolumbar spinal deformity with a focus on the importance of spinal alignment objectives.
7.  Report updated evidence-based analysis on the risk factors and pathogenesis of proximal junctional kyphosis following thoracolumbar deformity surgery.
8.  Categorize the relative indications and contraindications of decompression alone versus fusion/deformity correction in patients with degenerative kyphoscoliosis.
9.  Present research updates on critical ongoing questions dealing with degenerative spinal conditions and provide the opportunity for potential multicenter collaborations.
