Description

Join us from 7:00 to 5: 00 pm for a symposium that will address these issues by providing lectures and workshops by experts on the increasing evidence of climate change's impacts on health. It will also focus on the solutions that individual providers and the entire healthcare system can implement in their daily lives, their office/hospital. There will also be some talks on advocacy that will link to a future conference on advocacy in healthcare.

Objectives

  • Identify how climate change is impacting the world by reviewing recent data on climate trends and apply the knowledge to health impacts occurring in Ohio and throughout the Midwest.
  • Explain the impact climate change has on human health in relation to water and food availability and safety, vector borne illness, and vulnerable populations' access to healthcare.
  • Describe the importance of health professionals as trusted messengers for climate and health issues and apply the learned knowledge via communication and interaction with colleagues, patients, the public, and policy makers.
  • Define decarbonizing healthcare through reducing Scope 1-3 emissions and employ tactics at attendees’ facilities to begin decarbonization.
  • Recognize the gaps of climate and health knowledge in the current objectives of medical school curricula and construct strategies to integrate climate change/environmental health into medical school curriculum.
  • Review current climate change and health research occurring at Ohio State University.
