Computational design of next generation neurostimulation therapies

C4N Speaker Series

Friday, December 12, 2025 at 12:00 PM

Grand Round starts in:

C4N, Conference Room, 144 - Columbus, OH
December 12th, 2025
1.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit Hours

Description

Dr. Deng’s research focuses on how advances in neuromodulation therapies have transformed the treatment landscape for neuropsychiatric disorders, yet key challenges remain in optimizing interventions for individual patients. This talk presents a model-driven framework for neurostimulation, emphasizing computational approaches to dosing strategies and device design. Recent developments in transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) modeling will be discussed, including innovations in coil design, electric field simulation, and individualized targeting techniques. In parallel, the talk will cover the rationale and development of next-generation electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) devices, highlighting how biophysical modeling informs novel strategies for electrode placement and stimulus dosing. Together, these examples demonstrate how computational modeling can be integrated with device engineering and clinical insight to enhance the precision, efficacy, and safety of neurostimulation therapies, advancing the field toward personalized neuromodulation

Dates and Times

Start: 12/12/2025 12:00 PM
End: 12/12/2025 1:00 PM

Objectives

Learners will be able to explain how computational modeling informs dosing strategies and device design in neuromodulation therapies, describe recent advancements in TMS modeling, including innovations in coil design, electric field simulation, and individualized targeting; evaluate how integrating computational modeling with device engineering and clinical insights can improve the precision, efficacy, and safety of neurostimulation interventions.

At the conclusion of this series, learners will be able to:1. Know the impact of current psychotic illnesses and symptoms on daily life.2. Understand the current research trends in psychiatry and behavioral health.3. Apply the knowledge they discuss and learn during the speaker’s presentation.4. Identify the challenges currently present in psychiatry.5. Describe the various techniques and strategies in current studies specializing in mental and behavioral health.6. Connect with others who can enhance their knowledge on specific topics such as neuroimaging, Neurophenotyping, neuromodulation, and neuroimaging.
