Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:
1. Utilize and analyze tools for the evaluation of bone disease including not only bone density but also markers of bone turnover and trabecular bone score.
2. Confidently understand and prescribe all FDA approved medications to treat osteoporosis, and feel empowered to discuss with their patients mechanisms of action, risks and benefits.
3. Describe current understanding of medical-related osteonecrosis of the jaw including pathophysiology and risks, and be able to communicate that with their patients.
4. Advise their patients on exercises to seek out to maximize bone health, and more actively understand the role of physical therapy in the immediate and long-term care of patients with fractures.
5. Understand current evidence-based data on nutritional aspects of bone disease and integrate nutritional adjuncts to bone disease management
6. Recognize and evaluate for secondary causes of fractures including rare bone disease and parathyroid bone disease
7. Implement collaboration in their own clinics with pharmacy, PT and dieticians to improve the outcomes of patients with osteoporosis.
