Description
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, COPD, is the third leading cause of death worldwide. Yet it is a preventable and treatable public health challenge. Unfortunately the COPD burden is expect to increase in coming decades due to ongoing exposure to risk factors and an aging population.
COPD Updates is the topic of this week’s OSU East Hospital Grand Rounds. Jing Gennie Wang, MD, Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine, and Kelsey Black, Assistant Professor of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, are the expert panelists in this MedNet 21 webcast moderated by Shengyi Mao, MD, Associate Professor of Internal Medicine, and Medical Editor of MedNet 21. This presentation will be available as an in-person presentation in Wallace Auditorium beginning at 12:00 noon, Friday, June 28.

Objectives
As a result of this continuing medical educational activity, participants will be able to:
1. Discuss new definitions & phenotypes of COPD, and risk factors for disease other than cigarette smoking.
2. Evaluate for COPD & initiate clinical assessment for severity and burden of disease.
3. Discuss changes to initial pharmacologic management with regards to new Gold Staging based on the 2024 update.
