Description
This material will aim to reduce the morbidity and mortality related to drug overdose by supporting providers and health systems in the implementation of comprehensive systems of care for substance use disorder (SUD). Specifically, to increase and improve health system and clinician expertise to provide care for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) and SUD by building clinical capacity to screen, diagnose, and support longitudinal care for OUD and SUD and support recovery. This information will be available to providers throughout Ohio to access, and will update their knowledge base with current statistics, outcomes, screenings, and treatments for SUD, OUD, STUD.

Objectives
1. The learner will be able to identify the neurobiology of addiction as a chronic brain disease that is treatable with a comparable rate of relapse to other chronic conditions.
2. The learner will recognize the role of stigma and how this negatively impacts care for patients with substance use disorders. Disparities in care will be highlighted throughout the modules.
3. The learner will be introduced to general screening techniques for substance use disorders, understand how to utilize DSM-V criteria to diagnose use disorders and the importance of care coordination for patients in variable care settings. Providers will use knowledge to screen patients for SUD who otherwise are presenting for reasons not related to SUD. Providers can offer treatment and resources to patients they screen and diagnose with SUD.
4. The learner will be provided with an overview of the major use disorders, including: opioid, alcohol, stimulant, and cannabis. In addition, an introduction will be given surrounding novel and emerging illicit substances.
5. The learner will be able to describe the pharmacokinetics and evidence behind the use of medications for addiction treatment, specifically for opioid use disorder and alcohol use disorder.
6. The learner will be offered clinical cases for practical application of knowledge obtained from the preceding modules to facilitate care of patients struggling with addiction. Clinical cases will enhance Provider knowledge and provide with the tools for implementation of screening for SUD, STUD, AUD, OUD. Providers will implement the learned knowledge to better recognize signs and symptoms in their patients, conduct screening, and provide treatments for the above listed disorder.
