October 27th, 2026 1.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ Hours
Description
Event will be in person in the James Wasserstrom (L035) Auditorium with a hybrid option via Zoom.
Dates and Times
Start: 10/27/2026 12:00 PM
End: 10/27/2026 1:00 PM
Objectives
At the conclusion of this Regularly Scheduled Series, participants should be able to:
Learn how to critically appraise accepted radiology practices, such as pre-procedure INR/platelet "correction", imaging before abscess drain removal, and in-line IV filters for patients with a patent foramen ovale (PFO). this means recognizing when a practice rests on missing, outdated or low quality evidence, and weighing the cost and harms it adds for patients.
Learn how single-institution outcomes research can generate practice-changing evidence. Examples from the talk: bleeding risk after paracentesis, embolic events after power injection in PFO, long-term cancer risk in small pancreatic cysts, and structured for pancreatic cancer staging.
Apply evidence-based principles to put practice changes in place and keep them sustainable. That includes defining clear criteria and caveats for protocol changes, and recognizing "feature creep" when a validated tool grows beyond its evidence base and loses adoption.
