Description
Currently not all those caring for athletes including cardiologist, sports medicine providers, athletic trainers have a clear understanding of the causes and current research regarding of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in the athlete. They are not clear on whether screening of athletes with cardiac studies would be helpful nor are they clear on an emergency plan once a SCA occurs. Reports often indicate improper delays in treatment and a gap regarding whether an athlete can return to play after SCA. This symposium will detail causes and mechanisms of SCA; review how to develop an emergency plan for initial treatment for SCA; how to provide a proper work up; and then, with shared decision making, formulate a plan for return to play if feasible.
