OSU Lung Cancer Symposium

November 15th, 2024

Conference starts in:

Grand Event Center - Columbus, OH
1 Day Conference November 15th, 2024
4.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit Hours

Description

Lung cancer is evolving rapidly, with several new drugs approved in the last year, and with more approvals in the last 5 years than in the last 3 decades. This fact (many new agents) as well as fact that many of the drugs are approved for uncommon, even rare subtypes of cancers mean that continuing education for practitioners is required. We believe that there is improved understanding of the benefits of broad based molecular testing for patients with newly diagnosed lung cancer, however the ability to implement this knowledge – how to apply specific drugs to specific patients with known molecular and immunologic abnormalities – is a great challenge. We have firm data that availability of appropriate testing leads to improved outcomes and that use of blood based NGS testing shortens time to appropriate treatment however rates of testing remain low, especially in the perioperative setting where recent data show only about half of patients
receiving appropriate testing in some reports (https://ascopubs.org/doi/10.1200/JCO.2024.42.16_suppl.8047) thus definitively proving the unmet need for more education.
