Description
This symposium will provide information on latest diagnostic guidelines and clinical management approaches for a range of common neurological diseases and conditions, including: outpatient stroke, headache, cognitive, neuromuscular, epilepsy surgical program, multiple sclerosis, and general movement disorders. Each talk will be given by a nationally recognized specialist in the field. Cutting edge developments in holistic, multidisciplinary care will be discussed, with a focus on innovative customized, and multidisciplinary symptom management clinics. A panel of experts will review ongoing and upcoming clinical trials and studies of novel disease modifying agents for individuals with migraines, MS, neuromuscular disorders, seizures, Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and other forms of dementia. We will also have marketing materials prepared to share handouts and electronically to cover more areas such as specialty clinics, pain management, Huntington's disease, etc.

Objectives
- Review common comorbidities often observed in patients with epilepsy.
- Be able to describe the three FDA-approved neuromodulation devices for treating
epilepsy. - Understand the improved quality of life associated with the use of neuromodulation
devices in patients with epilepsy. - Discuss diagnosis of common dementia conditions and learn about management
approaches and treatment options for the patient with cognitive disorders. - Understand what palliative care is, and be able to explain at the patient level the
basics of legal documentation related to Power of Attorney for Health Care, living
will/advanced directive, and do-not-resuscitate (DNR) forms. - Understand what hospice means and what hospices services do/do not offer, and
when to consider referral to a palliative care program or hospice. - Recognize the common clinical presentation and diagnostic criteria for multiple
sclerosis and related disorders. - Understand the role of disease- modifying therapies in the long-term management of
multiple sclerosis and related disorders. - Discuss diagnostic approach to the patient with neuropathic symptoms, identify
when to suggest alternate diagnoses and treatable neuropathies, and discuss
symptomatic management of patients with neuropathy. - Discuss diagnosis of common dementia conditions, learn about management
approaches for the patient with cognitive disorders, and review new treatments for
Alzheimer’s and Lewy body disorders. - Learn more about the latest emerging clinical trials for neurological conditions,
including cognitive disorders and dementia, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis
and related disorders, neuromuscular diseases and headache. - To review new pharmacologic and neuromodulation treatments for migraine rescue treatment.
- To review new pharmacologic and neuromodulation treatments for migraine preventative treatment.
- To learn about the data on alternative and complementary treatments in migraine.
- To discuss the management of cluster headache and other trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias.
Identify essential tremor and distinguish from other forms of tremor. - Describe the more common symptomatic medication and non-medication strategies to address bothersome tremor.
- Identify when patients would benefit from referral for consideration of advanced therapy such as focused ultrasound and deep brain stimulation.
- Familiarize learners with the AHA/ASA clinical guidelines document and how to navigate it for quick reference.
- Review recent updates to clinical decision-making for secondary stroke prevention medication and procedures, including dual antiplatelet therapy in select patients, patent foramen ovale closure, and left atrial appendage closure.
- Understand the clinical trial results underlying the most recent guidelines.
