Description
Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), including physician assistants and nurse practitioners, are increasingly integrated into surgical subspecialties, including hand and upper extremity surgery. National workforce data demonstrates significant growth in the APP workforce, particularly within surgical fields, where APPs are expanding their roles in perioperative care, fracture management, wound care, clinic-based procedures, and first-assist responsibilities. Despite this expansion, there are limited structured, specialty-specific educational opportunities designed to support advanced procedural and clinical decision-making skills in hand surgery. These gaps have direct implications for patient safety, functional outcomes, efficiency of surgical teams, and healthcare value.
Participants will improve their ability to recognize high-stakes upper extremity diagnoses, interpret imaging appropriately, and demonstrate understanding of advanced soft tissue anatomy, nerve repair principles, wound closure techniques, injection procedures, and first-assist skills. The combined didactic and cadaveric lab format allows learners to apply knowledge and demonstrate procedural skills in a hands-on setting.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:
1. Identify high-risk post-operative and acute upper extremity conditions requiring urgent recognition and escalation of care.
2. Apply evidence-based diagnostic and management principles common to hand and upper extremity surgery.
3. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of upper extremity soft tissue, bone, and nerve anatomy relevant to surgical and procedural care.
4. Perform safe and accurate joint and soft tissue injections using proper anatomical landmarks and imaging optimization principles.
5. Integrate enhanced first-assist, wound management, and procedural skills into clinical practice to improve surgical team efficiency and patient outcomes.
