Description

This activity will educate learners about the expected increase in prevalence of dementias and have awareness of cognitive decline among their patients and the general population, why cognitive testing in primary care is important and when it should be performed, how to communicate about brain health, the appropriate tools to assess and evaluated for cognitive impairment in a timely way, and how to refer individuals with cognitive concerns to community services and resources.

Objectives

  1. Demonstrate an increase in awareness of cognitive decline, Alzheimer’s Disease and other related dementias;
  2. Explain why cognitive testing is important and when cognitive testing should be performed;
  3. Know how to effectively communicate and discuss brain health with older adults and their care partners;
  4. Select the tools to assess and evaluate cognitive impairment in a timely way; and,
  5. Explain how to treat and refer the patient and their care partners to community services and other resources.
