Objectives

“The Ethics of Artificial Womb Technology”:

  1. Compare and contrast the anatomical distinctions between artificial placenta and artificial womb technologies and their ethical implications.
  2. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of conventional versus novel nomenclature when discussing patients and research participants on artificial womb support.
  3. Describe the clinical and ethical barriers to initiating first-in-human research trials using artificial womb technology.

“Moral Distress and Moral Injury: How Differing Approaches to Ethics Lead Impact Neonatal Nurses and Neonatologists”:

  1. Appreciate the differences in moral reasoning employed by nurses and physicians in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
  2. Assess the critiques of the ethics of care and principlism.
  3. Clarify how differences in moral reasoning lead to moral distress in the NICU.
