May 8th, 2026
1.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit Hours

Description

Worldwide, RSV is the leading cause of bronchiolitis and pneumonia in infants and children under the age of 5. The risk of serious infection is highest during the first 6 months of life. Of those infected with RSV, 2–3% will develop bronchiolitis, necessitating hospitalization. In the United States, RSV is responsible for up to 20% of acute respiratory infection hospitalizations in children under the age of 5. It is rare for healthy young adults to develop severe illness requiring hospitalization from RSV. However, it is now recognized as a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in certain adult populations, including the elderly and those with underlying heart or lung diseases.

Respiratory Syncytial Virus is the topic of this week's OSUMC East Hospital Grand Rounds. Claire Sevov, MD, and Philip Chang, MD, both Assistant Professors of Internal Medicine, are the expert panelists in this MedNet 21 webcast moderated by Shengyi Mao, MD, Associate Professor of Internal Medicine. This presentation will be available as an in-person presentation in Wallace Auditorium, today, May 8 at 12:00 noon. Box lunches or lunch vouchers will be available to participants on a first-come basis.
