Objectives
-Explain the bidirectional relationship between alcohol use and pain, including alcohol’s acute analgesic effects and pain as a risk factor for alcohol-related problem.
-Recognize the discrepancy between the acute effects of alcohol on pain sensitivity and severity and individual perceptions of pain relief.
-Describe putative mechanisms underlying alcohol-induced changes in pain sensitivity and perceived pain relief.
