Description
The 5th Annual OSU Medical Ethics Conference "Enhancing and Modifying Health and Wellness: On the Limits of Medicine" will examine the limits of medicine and whether body enhancement and modification are ethically permissible or not. The conference will cover such topics as genetic selection, gender dysphoria, athletic performance enhancement and related topics. Currently, the practice of medicine is diverse and some clinicians perform or prescribe interventions that would fall into the category of enhancement or modification. Other physicians will claim that these are not a traditional role of medicine and are, therefore, illicit. Books and journal articles have addressed these issues but have not resolved the question. Our conference will give a consideration for a diverse array of medical interventions and will provide a diversity of ethical assessment and analysis. We will let our audience decide what type of medicine they prefer and how they will practice going forward. Our goal is to make the clinician more informed on the ethical considerations regarding these controversial interventions.

Objectives
At the end of this activity, learners will be able to:
Identify distinctions between traditional treatment of disease and enhancement and modification
Explain the ethical considerations around gender dysphoria and affirming therapies.
Articulate ethical arguments regarding medical enhancement in athletic competition
Recognize the importance of genetic screening and genetic selection
Describe an assortment of contemporary medical ethics dilemmas beyond enhancement and body modification.
