Description

Today on MedNet21, we're going to discuss Anticoagulant and Antiplatelet Update.

Anticoagulant

This presentation will review the anticoagulants available for use in atrial fibrillation and for the outpatient treatment of venous thromboembolism. Focus will be on the direct oral anticoagulants.

Antiplatelet

This presentation will review the antiplatelet recommendations for stable ischemic heart disease and acute coronary syndrome patients who may or may not have a percutaneous coronary intervention. The differences in the oral P2Y12 inhibitors, clopidogrel, prasugrel, and ticagrelor, will be covered.

Objectives

As a result of this educational activity, webcast participants will be able to:  DETERMINE optimal oral anticoagulant based on patient-specific characteristics; RECOMMEND monitoring for direct oral anticoagulants; DESCRIBE the role of aspirin and oral P2Y12 inhibitors for patients with stable ischemic heart disease or acute coronary syndromes with or without percutaneous coronary intervention; and EVALUATE the advantages and disadvantages of the different P2Y12 inhibitors.
