As a result of this educational activity, webcast participants will be able to: understand the impact of bariatric surgery on weight loss and resolution of obesity-related medical comorbidities; understand that bariatric surgery is not a cure, that patients can regain weight, but there are options for those that do; Understand the pre-surgery evaluation process and education to support patient’s chances for success post-surgery; Describe diet advancements, potential pitfalls, and interventions to keep patient healthy post-surgery.

Today on MedNet21, we're going to discuss Bariatric Surgery.

At the end of this presentation the learners should come away with a better understanding of the types of surgery offered, the outcomes of surgery on weight loss and resolution of medical comorbidities, complications after surgery and how to guide patients who experience weight gain. 

A review of the role of a registered dietitian as a patient is considering and ultimately pursuing bariatric surgery.
