Description
Medical information is constantly being updated and new clinical trials reported. Treatment algorithms and clinical guidelines are modified year-round at specialty conferences and by national committees such as the NCCN guidelines. Thus, conferences such as our GI Oncology Symposium provide a unique opportunity to summarize and educate physicians and allied healthcare providers to ensure they are equipped to provide state of the art care for their patients. It is very challenging for OSU and community oncology physicians and allied healthcare providers to stay up to date in the management of GI oncology patients and to implement these changes in clinical practice to improve patient care.
To ensure comprehensive review of updated oncology care in this symposium, we have included all the main specialties involved in GI oncology cancer care-Surgical oncology, Colorectal surgery, Medical oncology, Radiation oncology, interventional radiology, advanced endoscopy team, clinical nurse specialists, immuno-oncology experts and gastroenterology. Thus, specific knowledge gaps will be addressed, particularly in relation to the unique role the various sub-specialties play in the multidisciplinary care of GI oncology patients. Patient case studies will be discussed in the form of the virtual tumor board at the end of each session allowing application of the new information to tailor individualized care for patients with GI tumors.
