8 Day Conference February 18th - 25th, 2012
37.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit Hours

Description

The electrodiagnostic medicine consultation is a direct extension of the neurologic portion of the physical examination. An electrodiagnostic medicine consultant with special training in electrodiagnostic procedures maximizes his/her ability to consider appropriate differential diagnoses in planning and performing the electrodiagnostic examination. This expertise enables the physician to establish diagnoses, determine prognoses, and assist in proper management of the patient. The accuracy of the electrodiagnostic exam depends on the development of skills necessary to performing the exam, and in interpreting the exam’s findings. This is a practical seminar on clinical neuromuscular physiology, electrodiagnosis, and ultrasound examinations limited to physicians (MD's and DO's) who wish to update and improve their skills. Course content is developed in cooperation with the Center for Continuing Medical Education. Support material includes publications from faculty at The Ohio State University Medical Center and guest faculty. This course emphasizes hands-on, practical sessions and video presentations of electromyographic techniques and waveform analysis. Practice sessions and hands-on workshops provide opportunity for participants to interact with faculty on a daily basis. The course is intended for practicing physicians interested in the basics of clinical EMG and Ultrasound examinations. Note that participants should not expect they will be proficient in the performance of electrodiagnostic or ultrasound procedures at the conclusion of this course.

Dates and Times

Start: 2/18/2012 12:00 AM
End: 2/25/2012 12:00 AM

Objectives

Upon completion of this conference the participant will be able to: 1. Determine the best tests for common clinical presentations of pain, paresthesias and/or weakness. 2. Employ fundamental and advanced techniques in the EMG examination. 3. Review the evolving computerization of EMG instrumentation. 4. Employ fundamental and advanced techniques in ultrasound examinations of nerve entrapments and common musculoskeletal conditions. 5. Evaluate and improve the quality of his/her electrodiagnostic reports. 6. Identify and understand the physiology of waveforms associated with electromyographic findings. 7. Determine the most effective use of neuroblocking agents for the treatment of pain, dystonia, spasm, or spasticity.
