April 27th, 2026 1.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ Hours
Description
Exposure to atherogenic lipids during early adult life is a major determinant of cardiovascular disease risk across the life course. Yet how best to measure, interpret, and intervene on these determinants in young adults remains poorly defined
Dates and Times
Start: 4/27/2026 12:00 PM
End: 4/27/2026 1:00 PM
Objectives
1. Review evidence supporting the central role of early-life risk factor exposure in determining health-span across the adult life course;
2. Compare a "determinants-based" framework to a traditional "risk-based" framework for cardiovascular prevention in young adults;
3. Discuss the interpretation of atherogenic lipid levels in young adults using a life course perspective;
4. Examine behavioral and molecular mechanisms underlying inter-individual variation in atherogenic lipids; and
5. Offer clinical recommendations for the assessment and management of atherogenic lipid levels in young adults, inclusive of the approaches recommended in the 2026 Dyslipidemia guidelines.
