1.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit Hours

Description

Hyponatremia is the most commonly seen water-electrolyte imbalance. The disorder is more frequent in females, the elderly, and in people who are hospitalized. In hospital it affects about 15–20% of patients. Hyponatremia has been reported in up to 30% of the elderly in nursing homes and is also present in approximately 30% of people who are depressed on selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. People who have hyponatremia who require hospitalization have a longer length of stay and also have a higher likelihood of requiring readmission. This is particularly the case in men and in the elderly.

Approach to Hyponatremia is the topic of this week's OSUMC East Hospital Grand Rounds. Amy Yau, MD, Assistant Professor of Nephrology is the expert panelist in this MedNet 21 webcast moderated by Shengyi Mao, MD, Associate Professor of Internal Medicine. This presentation will be available as an in-person presentation in Wallace Auditorium.
