Description

According to the National Institutes of Health, a temporary pause in breathing is known as an apnea episode. Almost everyone has brief apnea episodes while they sleep. However, extended pauses or an increase in frequency can be due to sleep apnea. According to The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, obstructive sleep apnea is the most common form.

As a result of this educational activity, course participants will be able to: DETERMINE who is at risk for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA); DESCRIBE how the diagnosis of OSA is made; IDENTIFY the appropriate treatment of obstructive sleep apnea; IDENTIFY the co-morbidities associate with untreated obstructive sleep apnea.
