The Women in Surgery Symposium is an academic event focused on encouraging more women to pursue careers in surgery. The event will allow participants to interact with a diverse range of surgical specialists, allowing exchange of ideas, resources for personal and professional support, and networking opportunities. ​ Ultimately the goal of the symposium is to highlight the importance of advancing women toward careers in surgery by providing a practical and meaningful avenue forsurgical professionals and students to interact.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
1.  Identify the need for women in surgery and how it will help patient care in the future;
2.  Identify techniques for handling discrimination professionally in the workplace;
3. Develop ways to help create mentor relationship & improve existing ones;
4.  Apply professionalism in a discipline in which men are traditionally more predominant;
5.  Identify ways to help balance work and home life;
6. Identify techniques to develop personal self-confidence and assertiveness;
7. Develop techniques in negotiating contracts, job interviews questions.
